State College Friends Meeting
Welcome, Friend!
State College Friends Meeting (Quakers) is a community of seekers who support each other in our shared journeys of the Spirit. When we gather in worship, we seek the indwelling Spirit through receptive silence, listening for the piece of the Divine that resides in everyone.
We strive to be a diverse community where all are invited to participate in all aspects of our community life. We celebrate the diversity of expression that every member brings, understanding that the Inner Light lives and shines within each and every one of us. We are affirming of the range of spiritual experience. Some of us understand that Inner Light to be God, Christ, the Divine, spiritual energy, or our deepest self.
We do our best to “walk the talk,” promoting the values of simplicity, peace, integrity, community, equality, and stewardship in the world. For example, we have active working groups on racial justice, climate justice, and a committee on peace and social concerns, and we participate in the local community’s Out of the Cold project, helping to provide shelter for homeless people.
We have no sacraments or rituals, believing every action of life is sacred; we have no paid ministers, believing all are ministers to one another.
To worship we center ourselves to find the inward stillness that quells the noise of everyday thoughts. This opens our minds to Divine revelation, which may or may not inspire a spoken message. “Our worship is a spiritual adventure unique and unpredictable.” (Penington, 1670)
We gather for unprogrammed worship on Sunday mornings at 11:00. Meetings are currently in a hybrid format, with both in-person and Zoom participants. See the weekly bulletin on this website or contact the meeting office at scfmeeting@gmail.com for the Zoom link.
First Day School for Young Friends runs concurrently with Meeting for Worship from September through May.
Newcomers can find more information about Quakers by clicking on “New to Meeting” under the “About” tab on the meeting website.
We hope you will join us. You are indeed welcome here.
