An adult RE Program-
Over the last year, the world has witnessed a period of incredible violence against Palestinian people in Gaza and the West Bank. The October 7 attacks by Hamas against Israel, far from the “start” to this history, represent an example of violent and militaristic resistance to the ongoing Israeli occupation of Palestinian land and people. On Sunday, October 27 at 1:00, Justine Lindemann will discuss some of the history of the occupation, how religion, ethnicity, and race intersect in Israela and Palestine, and the ways in which “slow violence” over the last several decades has set the stage for the unprecedented pace of the ongoing genocide and starvation of Gazans that is currently unfolding.
Justine Lindemann grew up in Syracuse, NY in a Palestinian-American household where she learned from a young age about the experiences of her Palestinian grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins in exile from their homeland. Much of her childhood was filled with stories about the “Old Country” from her grandfather, and political discussions about ongoing events in the Arab world. She has traveled in Jordan, Syria, Israel, and the occupied Palestinian territories to visit family, and has spent much of her adult life working to better understand the place that occupies such an important part of her heart. She currently lives in State College and is on the faculty in the rural sociology program at Penn State University.
